Two minutes with...

Two Minutes with… Lisa Thompson

Two Minutes With... is a new regular series of blogs introducing some of the amazing people who work at ITV. Find out what they do, why they do it - and how they got here.

Tell us a little about yourself

I live in the centre of Leeds with my sphynx cat Graham Thompson (there he is below!) I love yoga and meeting my friends for drink - I like to think I'm in ‘Sex and the City’ but in Leeds!

Can you tell us a little about your career so far at ITV?

Lisa ThompsonI have been PA to Helen Stevens, Operations Officer for CS&D, now for over 8 years. I didn’t have previous PA experience so I have learnt so much in my career at ITV by learning about the different departments and meeting a wide range of people and suppliers along the way. I have developed so many skills through this.

For the last 7 years I have also been a chair for the Able network. November is Able Month and we have lots of amazing events coming up, including...

  • a panel with the CEO of Purple Tuesday, hosted by Ben Shephard
  • a "Disability Representation in Scripted Drama" event hosted by Ruth Berry
  • a behind the scenes look at how accessibility was built into Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway
  • Deaf Awareness Training with Signpost Productions.

There's lots of other things coming up!

What does an average day/week look like in your role?

My days as a PA don’t always start and finish routinely, as sometimes Directors need help outside of these hours.

  • I usually start my day by logging on and checking my emails, Helen’s emails, and my PA emails (I have 3 email accounts!) responding appropriately and ensuring all meetings for the day are planned (whilst drinking copious amounts of coffee...)
  • I couldn’t get by without my to do lists. I book hotels, flights, trains, and anything travel related for Helen and Zoe Carter, Programme Director for Metadata
  • I also create presentations, documents, formal letters and reports that need to be actioned that day
  • I attend meetings with Helen that need agendas and minutes taking and draft these up to send to the attendees.

It’s never boring and there’s always 100 things to do at any given point, which is how I love to work! I relish the constant varying of tasks that come through in a day.

What are your favourite parts of being in CS&D/ITV?

It has to be the teams. I love chatting to everyone - sometimes too much, once you get me talking I will never stop!
