The role
ITV Signpost is an award-winning production unit in the North East of England that is part of ITV, producing more than 1,500 hours of content every year for broadcasters, businesses, commercial brands and digital channels. We are also an award-winning production company, creating a number of commissions with a focus on diversity.
We are looking for an accomplished British Sign Language expert to join our busy team as an On-Screen presenter.
You’ll have a professional on-screen appearance and an approachable style and manner, both on and off screen. As our On-Screen Presenter, you’ll be accustomed to the inner workings of a busy production environment and have experience working to very strict deadlines.
Signpost is a busy yet rewarding production; we’ll look to you to interpret and bring translations to life. You will need stamina and energy to successfully work across a broad range of topics. We expect you to be willing and enthusiastic about developing new skills and flourishing with a creative and original spark.
Key responsibilities:
- Presenting information on screen in fluent and professional BSL.
- Interpreting and translating written or spoken content, including song lyrics, into accessible BSL presentations.
- Preparing for filming sessions by reviewing scripts and content in advance.
- Maintaining high standards of linguistic accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness.
- Contributing to the development of accessible content and promoting best practice in BSL communication.
- Managing workload effectively and meeting agreed production deadlines.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):
- Fluency in British Sign Language (BSL).
- A minimum BSL qualification at Level 6 or equivalent.
- Experience presenting on camera or delivering content in a media, broadcast or digital environment.
- A proactive approach to work and problem-solving.
- A positive, professional attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
