Operations Manager
The Role
The Operations Manager is one of the most senior roles at ITV Channel TV and is central to the running of our news output. We have a high-performing team across the Channel Islands with the main studio and core services based on St Helier’s waterfront in Jersey. Our news service connects our island communities and reflects everything from the politics of the Channel Islands to their unique heritage and culture. We're looking for someone who can inspire our colleagues, working as part of the senior management team.
Our Operations Manager leads all operational, logistical and technical fields for the Channel service and is responsible for managing our technical team of production specialists. The role is extremely varied with time spent on management responsibilities and undertaking operational tasks in the gallery or in the field to support our live broadcasts and multi-platform delivery when required.
Some experience of setting and managing budgets is desirable as is an interest in advances in production methods.
You will enjoy the challenge of a pressurised, deadline driven operation and you will bring real passion for the industry and the news agenda across the Channel Islands. Candidates will ideally have a considerable background in live broadcasting and an awareness and appreciation of the workings of the news environment is desirable. You’ll also be willing to help and support projects across ITV News from time to time.
To rise to the challenge, you’ll need excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to be accessible to colleagues locally and in the wider company at all times. This is not a 9-5 role and ‘out-of-hours’ calls including at weekends are common. An in-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations is desirable, as are top end administrative skills.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
- The ability to plan and operate in the longer term (particularly in
relation to colleague development strategy) as well as working to
immediate deadlines.
- An organised and methodical but flexible approach with effective
logistical skills.
- The ability to lead, develop, motivate and inspire others – setting and
achieving high standards for the team.
- The ability to work to deadlines in a pressurised environment
- The ability to provide regular, honest and consistent feedback to others.
- A minimum of one core technical production skill - e.g camerawork, editing, directing
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
- Candidates will ideally have a considerable background in live broadcasting and an awareness and appreciation of the workings of the news environment is desirable.
- The ability to engage effectively with colleagues within ITV, including senior leaders
- Knowledge of and interest in national and regional
news – both newspapers, online and other broadcast media.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and quick thinking with a ‘can-do’ attitude
- The ability to keep calm and focussed under pressure.
- The ability to understand and work to a budget
- An interest in upcoming technology
Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments, involving live news production, which often requires colleagues to make quick decisions under pressure. We also need people who are able to use their initiative.
We need to test these abilities at the interview stage to understand how candidates will react when operating in a pressurised environment. This is a fundamental requirement of the role. We will always consider any request for reasonable adjustments as part of the interview process, for example sharing key themes when that is requested in connection with a neurodivergent condition, whilst still ensuring that we are able to test a candidate's ability to operate in the specific environment of a newsroom.
Closing date: Tuesday 10th June 2025

What is the magic of ITV?
It starts with a simple love of television. Watching it, creating it, talking about it. Whether it’s daytime or primetime, for downtime or anytime.
We’re inspired by our audiences. Who helps shape what we make. Standing shoulder to shoulder with them. Because what matters to them, matters to us.
Starting conversations. Winning hearts. Changing minds and sometimes even society itself. Big or small, what we make makes an impact.
