The Role

The purpose of the role

We are seeking a highly skilled principal enterprise architect to play a key role in the execution of the EA strategy and planning strategic architectural changes. This role sits within Enterprise Architecture and works with the wider architecture technology leadership teams across ITV. The purpose is to enable change through designing, mapping, analysing and communicating decisions across our business. You will be experienced in defining business capabilities and their impact on organisational models and architectures in a dynamic environment.

The role supports the development of high-level designs for new and existing systems, helps ensure that proposed solutions align with organisational standards and architecture principles, and contributes to the creation of artefacts that can be understood across different levels of technical and business stakeholders.

You are someone with experience of modern integration patterns, technologies, and standards for data and Enterprise architecture. Our business operates across multiple territories and teams, and this role offers the opportunity to build experience and bring your wealth of architecture expertise to stakeholders in new and diverse projects, each with their own unique set of challenges. The role requires excellent business and technology understanding of this space, as well as experience in data management implementation.

The responsibilities for the role are:

  • Develop target state architectures and transition plans to achieve the organisation's strategic goals and to develop and maintain enterprise architecture artifacts and roadmaps
  • Document and communicate as-is and target-state views in forms that are understandable and useful to a range of business and technology audiences.
  • Develop and maintain the organisation's enterprise architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with objectives, Identifying new technologies which can make a material impact on the sector and add competitive advantage
  • Lead and enable decision making processes that enable value, change and growth across the business.
  • Develop, coach and communicate architectural thinking across technology, to embed best practise across the organisation.
  • Develop and manage members of the team from junior to senior roles.
  • Design and develop policies, standards, guidelines, roadmaps, and strategy that affect the selection, design, development, implementation, maintenance and use of technology within the organisation.
  • Work with the Enterprise Architecture team and wider technology domains and architecture groups to map and document logical architectures, service boundaries and workflows.
  • Liaise with divisional technical design groups to ensure proposed designs remain within organisational guidelines, standards and architectural principles.
  • Conduct current state assessments and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in business processes and systems.
  • Collaborate on high-level and detailed designs for new solutions and enhancements to existing systems, using C4 and other modelling approaches where appropriate.
  • Review system designs and recommend improvements based on defined principles and standards.
  • Take a leading role in defining and maintaining a group-wide Business Capability model and in modelling the relationships between business capabilities, applications and organisational structures.
  • Work in a service-led manner to identify gaps, dependencies and opportunities for improvement across domains.
  • Work closely with technology leads within each domain on architectural decisions and directional themes toward future state.
  • Collaborate on the creation of value chain maps and other situational awareness artefacts to explore options, dependencies and strategic contribution.
  • Identify and analyse opportunities to improve business and technology workflows through workflow orchestration, automation and Intelligent Automation practices.
  • Support the design and documentation of automation patterns spanning business process automation, system-to-system orchestration, AI-assisted workflows and operational control points.
  • Help assess feasibility and implementation considerations for modern workflow and Intelligent Automation initiatives, including integration, data quality, monitoring, resilience, supportability, security and governance.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Proven ability to lead design authority meetings with senior stakeholders and translate high-level requirements into tangible designs, models and decision options.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Platforms and how they fit in the context of enterprise architecture and domain reference models.
  • Confidence to lead meetings with stakeholders, management, and individual contributors and very good written and verbal communication, presentation, service and technical writing skills
  • Strong skills in enterprise architecture modelling and documentation, using C4 and other appropriate modelling tools and techniques.
  • Experience working with technology departments and software-based solution design and analysis, with a solid understanding of systems and interfaces.
  • Ability to capture, document and communicate complex technical and workflow concepts clearly to multiple levels of audience.
  • Understanding of workflow design, process analysis and implementation considerations for workflow automation or Intelligent Automation in enterprise environments.

Key Criteria

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and laterally.
  • Comfortable working with and guiding others through ambiguity, while structuring complex operating models, workflows and architectural issues into clear artefacts and decisions.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of software development methodologies, tools, techniques and current technology trends.
  • Understanding of service design principles and how they can be applied to create value for customers and employees.
  • Experience identifying or supporting opportunities for workflow improvement, orchestration, automation or AI-enabled process capabilities, including awareness of governance, control and operational support needs
