The Role

The team
Become an integral part of the Quay Street Productions development team in Manchester, directly contributing to the company's reputation for delivering high-end, impactful drama. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with experienced colleagues and play a key role in identifying and nurturing the next wave of compelling stories and talent that align with Quay Street Productions' ambitious vision for British television. You'll be immersed in a dynamic environment focused on creating exceptional content.

The role
We are seeking an experienced Script Editor with development experience who can hit the ground running due to our busy production schedule. While full support will be provided, the ideal candidate will quickly leverage their strong editorial skills and established industry network to identify and develop exceptional drama projects from concept to early stages. You will be pivotal in sourcing and nurturing writing talent, providing insightful script feedback, and contributing creatively to project development, working closely with the Head of Development and script team to shape the future of high-end television.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Demonstrable experience as a credited Script Editor for a minimum of two (2) high-end television drama productions (evidenced in CV).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working in development for a television production company, or channel, with a proven track record in high-end drama (evidenced in CV).
  • Proven experience in actively researching and identifying up-and-coming writers within the British television landscape.
  • Experience managing script submission processes, including responding professionally and efficiently to literary agents and writers.
  • Direct experience providing constructive and insightful development and script notes for high-end drama productions.
  • Involvement in taking television drama projects from their initial concept stage through to script commission.
  • Proficiency in using Final Draft.
  • Familiarity with and passion for Quay Street Productions' slate.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • Strong knowledge of British TV writers, both established and new.
  • Excellent editorial skills to spot strong projects and give helpful feedback on scripts and ideas.
  • Good relationships with literary agents and a talent for building strong connections with writers.
  • Experience in contributing creative ideas to develop projects with senior colleagues.
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to give clear and sensitive feedback.
  • An understanding of diverse UK audiences and a perspective on how to make programmes that appeal to them.
  • Experience in presenting project ideas to TV channels or senior leaders.
  • Well-organised and able to manage mulitple projects at once, paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research to support both development and production, ensuring accuracy.
