ScreenSkills
ScreenSkills is the industry-led skills body for the screen industries - film, television (including children's, unscripted and high-end), VFX (visual effects), animation and games.
We are supporting economic recovery and future innovation and growth across the nations and regions by investing in the skilled and inclusive workforce behind the camera who are critical to the UK screen industries' global success.
They have worked with ITV on initiatives including First Break, a social mobility programme designed to help people from backgrounds not well represented in the TV industry to get in.
They are funded by industry contributions to our skills funds and by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funds, as well as funds for specific activity, for example, from Arts Council England.
ScreenSkills work includes:
- Providing careers information, including descriptions on our website of the different jobs available
- Signposting quality professional pathways such as apprenticeships and ScreenSkills Select which endorses university and further education courses identified as relevant to a career in screen
- Supporting career development at every stage from new entrants, with programmes such as Trainee Finder, to executives including through mentoring and offering bursaries.

National Film and Television School
First established in 1971, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) has evolved to become a leading global institution, developing some of Britain and the world’s top creative talent. It is widely acknowledged to be the top school of its kind in the UK and one of the best internationally.
In 2018, the NFTS was awarded both the BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. The NFTS runs more behind-the-camera courses than any other film school in the world as well as numerous short courses, including core craft areas such as directing and cinematography, in addition to specialisms including script supervision and production accounting.
Supported by key industry partnerships, students benefit from world class tuition and an outstanding programme of exclusive Masterclasses. All courses are designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to make an impact in the film, television and games industries as soon as they graduate.
NFTS graduates go on to work on a large number of ITV productions in a range of roles, and in key positions at ITV Studios helping to create new and exciting formats. These credits include major roles in hits such as Des, White House Farm, Broadchurch, Endeavour, Vera, Ninja Warrior UK and Love Island.

Film London - Equal Access Network
Film London help people get in, stay in and return to the Film & TV industry.
The EAN is supported by the Mayor of London and works to ensure that the capital’s screen industries represent the diversity of the city itself. Built and grown with a vision to promote inclusion and diversity the EAN becomes the link in and industry network for those that don’t have it.
They see first-hand the industry’s enthusiasm and high demand for a diverse and inclusive workforce and provide the link between untapped under-represented talent and the companies or productions that are looking to recruit. To reach this talent, Film London work closely with training providers, charities and foundations across London.
Working alongside the industry they help our members get jobs, placements and traineeships that often act as a launchpad for them with many of our members sustaining successful careers in the Film and TV industry. They are proud to be supported by some of the most exciting companies in the industry.

Royal Television Society
The Royal Television Society is an educational charity promoting the art and science of television. From glamorous award ceremonies to lively debates, the RTS embraces all aspects of television, and is open to anyone with an interest in the medium. As an educational charity, we encourage and celebrate work in television and its related fields, from finding out how the nation’s favourite shows are made, to celebrating burgeoning talent at our annual Student Awards. The industry’s most talented individuals give us an insight into the work that goes into making cutting edge contemporary TV, from events with Government ministers and CEOs to workshops with great runners for RTS Futures events. Each year, we offer Television Production, Journalism and Technology bursaries to help those from less affluent backgrounds get a foothold in the industry, and Masterclass sessions bring together students, academics and industry heads.
RTS Futures has worked with ITV Talent Managers over the years, who each year exhibit at the annual RTS Careers Fair.
RTS Futures is chaired by Alex Wootten - scheduler at ITV2 and we have recently recruited Lauren Evans, Talent Manager for ITV Entertainment. Lauren has now joined the RTS Futures Committee to develop and produce multiple online webinars and sessions for RTS Futures and RTS Bursaries. The sessions have ranged from talent manager AMA’s to linking up the bursary scholars with the ITV Casting teams.
ITV have been involved with the RTS Bursary scheme for many years – with representatives on both the Technology and Education Committees helping to select our successful Bursary Scholars.
Entry Level Schemes:
The Royal Television Society runs two bursary schemes: the Technology Bursary and the TV Production and Journalism Bursary. The schemes are designed to support people from lower-income backgrounds to pursue a career in the television industry.
RTS bursary scholars benefit from financial support; free RTS membership; networking events; industry mentorship (for TV Production students) and the Summer Tour (for Technology students).

Iconic Steps
Iconic Steps is a social enterprise that supports young people (aged 16-25) from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to enter the media industry.
We champion a holistic approach to each young person’s development, so in addition to industry specific training, mentoring and practical experience on ‘real projects’, our beneficiaries attend workshops in related life-skills including resilience, personal finance, email etiquette and using their initiative.
We work with media organisations that are focused on creating a fair, equal and diverse workplace by addressing the problem of inclusion that exists within the industry. We help them to support the next generation of talent through providing access to our pool of over 300 diverse talent, running masterclasses, workshops and a mentoring programme.
We work with ITV as one of our key media partners through:
- CV Clinics for our alumni
- ITV Masterclasses i.e ‘Casting for Love Island’
- Mentoring programme
- Connecting our alumni with job opportunities at ITV

SignPost is a production company based in the North East, making new shows for any network with a consistent focus on diversity and inclusion.
They produce a range of content including children's programmes, magazine shows and documentaries.
On each and every commission, SignPost is committed to creating a team of which at least half are people who are Deaf or are people with a disability.

Signature Pictures Academy tackles youth unemployment and diversity within film and TV by breaking down barriers and bridging the gap between the diverse young people they work with.
Through their free to access outreach, training and support programmes Signature Pictures up-skill, enliven and inspire young people from low socioeconomic and diverse backgrounds to find sustainable work within film, tv and the creative industries.
Their award winning training offers a unique opportunity for every participant to gain experience working on a live film set where they will gain 1-2-1 mentoring in the department of their choice and receive an IMDb credit.
Programmes:
Get Started in Film is Signature Picture's flagship 5 day programme combining workshops, on-the-job training and mentorship by experienced film professionals; providing participants with everything they need to start a career within the film and TV industries including an IMDb credit.
Get Started in Freelance Production is a new programme focusing on the practical tools and knowledge you need to set up as a freelancer. You'll gain a network of contacts, steps and tips to register as a freelancer, a professional video shoot with a real client, tips for health and wellbeing and mentoring from professionals.

Rise Up
Rise Up is an exciting new industry-led schools outreach programme. It inspires and educates children about engineering and technology opportunities in the broadcast, media and entertainment industries.
How it Works:
Rise Up is a programme of school workshops delivered throughout the UK to inspire children throughout their primary and secondary education. Crucially, it will enable industry to remain in contact with students and encourage them to consider a broadcast engineering apprenticeship or degree, when they reach this level.
Why is it needed?
With universities struggling to recruit both male and female talent in broadcast engineering related courses, the industry is increasingly facing recruitment shortfalls across the whole sector.
Rise Up has been working with universities and key industry partners to investigate and address the lack of new talent entering the broadcast technology sector, specifically engineering and technical operational roles.

The TV Foundation
The TV Foundation is the charitable body behind the Edinburgh TV Festival as well as their schemes The Network, Ones to Watch and TV PhD and other year round initiatives including the New Voice Awards and their Real Living Wage campaign. They work with industry bodies, including ITV Studios, to try and improve the diversity of and conditions for people working in TV in the UK.
The Edinburgh TV Festival is famous for its provocative, informative and entertaining sessions, all created by seasoned TV producers ensuring they are of the highest quality and relevance. Offering more than 60 keynotes, debates and masterclasses, plus scores of networking opportunities, they draw around 2200 professionals from across the globe.
Their speaker Hall of Fame is second to none, featuring high-calibre speakers from media titans to actors, writers, producers, CEOs and channel controllers from the biggest broadcasters.
