Welcome to the ITV Academy News Traineeship for 2023

ITV News delivers high quality and trustworthy coverage attracting record audiences. We are offering you the opportunity to join our national and regional news teams as a trainee journalist.

You will be taught all the skills you’ll need to work in one of our multi-media news operations. We’re looking for people who can demonstrate a commitment to journalism, have great story ideas and are ambitious.

The 2023-2024 ITV Academy News Traineeship is a fantastic opportunity to begin your career with Britain’s most popular commercial broadcaster. It’s a nine-month programme where you’ll learn from some of the most talented people in the industry. We’ll offer you all the support and guidance you could need, including regular feedback, so that you can gain all the skills needed to work in one of our multimedia news operations.

It’s a fast-paced and challenging environment. You should be ready to work hard and to high standards.

The programme starts on Monday 2nd October 2023. We’ll be giving twelve talented journalists an incredible entry into our industry. You could join us in:

  • our English Regional newsrooms at ITV Anglia (Norwich), ITV Central (Birmingham), ITV Granada (Media City, Salford), ITV Meridian (Whiteley near Southampton), ITV Tyne Tees & Border (Gateshead near Newcastle), ITV West Country (Bristol), and ITV Yorkshire (Leeds),
  • our national newsrooms at ITV Cymru Wales (Cardiff) and UTV (Belfast),
  • our Network newsroom (London),
  • or our ITV Channel office (St Helier, Jersey).

For all roles outside of London, you’ll receive an annual salary of £26,329. In London, this increases to £27,993. You’ll also enjoy five weeks of paid leave pro-rata during the programme, plus public holidays. We’re proud that a very high percentage of people who graduate from the programme have gone on to secure permanent roles within our teams, but there is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the nine months.

You’ll need to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in journalism and news output, have a minimum Level 5 or equivalent at GCSE English Language, and be committed to a career in our industry. You’ll also need to be over the age of 18 by 1st October 2023.
